The Fall (September) intake is the primary admission period for most universities, while the Spring (February) intake is offered by select universities, mainly for international students; deadlines vary, so checking individual university websites is recommended.

Scholarships

Netherlands offer four main types of scholarships for international students. The NL Scholarship (formerly called as the Holland Scholarship) is funded by the Netherlands government, amounting to a sum of € 5,000 for the first year of study. Many universities offer their own scholarships for excellent international students. The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LexS) provides three types of financial aids - €10,000 of the tuition fees, €15,000 of the tuition fees or the total tuition fee minus the statutory tuition fee. The University Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a scholarship for excellent students from non-EU/EER countries, applying for a graduate programme (MSc) at the University of Twente with a scholarship of €3,000 - €22,000

Under the NL Scholarship, you will receive a grant of 5,000 EUR (approx. INR 5 lakhs) in the first year of your studies.

University Twente Scholarship – UTS provides a scholarship amounting to €3,000 to €22,000 (approx. INR 3L to 22L) for one year. In the case of a two-year Masters’ program, you may receive an additional UTS amount equal to that in the first year to cover the second year. A portion or all of the tuition may be covered by the scholarship, depending on the amount granted.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarships – The Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (LexS) is one of the highly competitive scholarships in the Netherlands aimed at outstanding Indian students who wish to pursue a Master’s degree (except LLM and MSc programmes at Leiden Law School) at Leiden University.

Private & NGO Scholarships – In addition to government and university-funded scholarships in the Netherlands, numerous private organisations and companies offer scholarships and fellowships to support international students like Rotary Scholarships, Eric Bleumink Fund, VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) among others.

In the Netherlands, the traditional grading scale is from 1 to 10, where 1 is the lowest and 10 the highest grade. Below is a comparison with the Indian CGPA system, where anything below 5.0 CGPA is considered fail.
